At FivePointFour, we are extraordinarily fortunate to hit the jackpot every single day with meeting inspiring people who are chasing their health and fitness goals.
The 5.4 team’s hearts melted when we watched a YouTube clip of Anna Strode doing part of her daily 20 minute workout while her adorable twin babies bounce around as they watch their mum. She starting with a three minute warm up before moving onto five minute sets – with 30 second breaks – using dumbbells, barbells, a medicine ball and a skipping rope.
Her Insta clips are motivating new mums across around, with people messaging her saying they have been inspired. We love that Anna is focused on her gorgeous family AND achieving her health and fitness goals. Over to Anna!
Tell us a bit about yourself …
I’m a mumma to 11 month old identical twins, Lachie and Samuel, engaged to my best friend and my loves in life are family, friends, laughter and exercise!
What was the moment you were inspired to get fit and healthy?
After I gave birth to Lachie and Samuel I was very overwhelmed with the whole motherhood experience. I decided to dedicate 20 minutes a day to working out, so at the end of the day when I looked back at all the dirty nappies I had changed, long hours spent breastfeeding and trying to get two bubbas to sleep as well as working through a never ending list of household chores, I could remind myself that I had done something for me, that would help me be a better mother and that felt really good.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Our days start between 5-5.30am. I breastfeed the boys and then we’re all up for breakfast. Straight after breakfast I’m into a workout. Lachie and Samuel will start in their jumpers but often I get them involved too, they absolutely love it! I find if I leave working out to any later ion the day #mumlife gets in the way and this opens doors for excuses as to why I don’t have time. After 20 minutes of sweating it’s GO TIME, our days consist of cooking healthy new foods, exploring our local parks and running tracks, lots of housework and about 20 loads of washing, fitting mummys work in between breastfeeding, dirty nappies and lots of games and cuddles! Everyday is different, brings us new adventures and challenges but we wouldn’t have it any other way!
What advice would you give to Mummies who want to make their lives happier and healthier?
Get up every morning and SWEAT! You don’t need to dedicate hours in the gym, pay crazy amounts for expensive memberships or get caught up on the latest ‘fad diets’. You just need to get moving for 20 minutes a day, your backyard or living room with your children is the perfect setting. Make it fun, work hard and I promise you will face your day with a whole lot more energy!
Your favourite way to move is …
High intensity, explosive moves that really get my heart racing and can help me achieve great results with just 20 minutes day!
I’m my happiest when …
I’m surrounded by my family and there is laughter.
The one thing I’m trying really hard right now to do is …
Live in the moment, take each day as it comes and not get caught up on the ‘what ifs’.
The most important message you would like to share with new mummies re their health and fitness is …
The most important part of everything I do is that I actually don’t do what I do for the ‘body’ that is just the secondary result. I do this to work on my mind. I do it so I have the energy to face the day with a positive mind and a zest for life! I do it so I can be the best mother possible and set a health example for my children. I want to show other mummies that it IS possible to workout at home with children. Children should not be out excuse but rather our reason!
